Happy New Year!

I don’t know about you, but for us, 2012 was a blur!  As wedding, senior, family and portrait photographers, we’re definitely grateful for all of the business that kept us in the throes of busyness the past twelve months, but before the pages on the 2013 calendar start flying by, we’re taking time out to reflect, recharge, and make a plan.  Our goal for this New Year is to be clear about our goals…whether it’s carving out time to just sit and watch the clouds go by…doing the work to make our photography dreams come true…spending time with friends in Reno and Tahoe…or going on new adventures…we want to be deliberate about our intentions this year, so that we have more balance and more time to live this life to the fullest.

One of the things that suffered in the busyness of 2012 was our diet, so on this first day of a brand New Year, we’re sharing our new toy (Thank You, Santa (a.k.a. mom & dad!)), our Vitamix blender!  Dean and I are both interested in health and nutrition, and I know there is a lot of information (sometimes conflicting) out there.  One thing that strikes a chord with us is eating more whole foods.  We believe that the more simple you can keep your food choices, the better off you’ll be.  As much as we can, we support local, organic, and sustainable food options.  We have lots of room for improvement, but an easy way for us to get great nutrition is in a green smoothie.  We’re so excited about our new Vitamix that we did a little New Year’s Day photo shoot to share with all of you!

Some of my favorite books on food and nutrition, including the easy to read Green for Life, and the corresponding Green Smoothie Revolution (with recipes)!  Green Smoothie Girl is another great site, if you’re interested in checking out what Green Smoothies have to offer.  They’re quick and easy to make…and they’re DELICIOUS!!  :D

*Disclaimer…Omnivores Dilemma and The China Study are full of great information, but are not light reading.  ;)

Isn’t my Green Smoothie chef handsome?  oxo

I also really liked Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver and Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser.

If these subjects interest you, you should also check out:  Fat, Sick and Nearly DeadForks Over Knives… and Food, Inc.

We hope that your 2013 is off to a great start…we’re writing a list of goals (101 in 1001) that we can’t wait to share with all of you!  This year, we want to make our goals public, and we’d love for you to join in and leave a comment…what’s one of your goals for the New Year?

We love green smoothies in our house. My kids even drink them and my husband has started drinking one for breakfast every morning. I love your cute glasses too! Good luck on your new year resolution. This is a fabulous one to do :)

Our goal for this year is one word: positivity. We both quickly become so bogged down with negative thoughts and feelings, and we are going to change that in 2013! Best wishes to you both on your journey, and I so look forward to the beauty you create and share, plus I’m working on my list of “must-have” shots for our 2014 wedding for you! We’re getting married next year! <3 Love to you both!
